Looking For a Home

Betty, a 6 pound, 5-year-old Chihuahua, was a frightened, injured stray who arrived at the Salinas Animal Services in heartbreaking condition. She had been viciously attacked by a dog or raccoon, and her tiny body was covered with cuts and puncture wounds. Placed in a loving foster home, Betty's wounds eventually healed, and her fur grew back over most of her scars. But just like humans, dogs are vulnerable to post-traumatic stress disorder. Betty still harbors some emotional scarring from her abandonment and mauling.

Betty's foster parents know what a special, loving, sweet little dog Betty is. But it took her a while to trust them, and she still trembles a bit when she meets new people. But even in situations that make her nervous, Betty has never shown any signs of aggressive behavior, and never nips. She is a sweet soul who gets along fine with other dogs and loves to ride in the car. She follows at your heels and always wants to keep you in sight. Betty greets you at the door with utter joy, enthusiastically wiggling and wagging her tail.

Betty would be a perfect little companion for someone looking for a lap dog. She's not looking for anyone to take her for long walks, or play fetch with her. Betty just wants to be with her person-comforted, held, and assured that she is safe and home at last. If you would like to offer a place in your heart and home to little Betty, please fill out an online adoption application.

Every Life Counts

AFRP has a lifetime commitment to every animal that comes into our care. We do not put animals down because they have been with us too long or have special medical needs. Betty is anxious to find a permanent home because although she's off the streets and safe--she'll quickly tell you that being an orphan is not fun. She wants to find a special family to call her own.

AFRP depends on volunteers and donations from the general public to rescue approximately 1,900 dogs and cats each year. Won't you help us save more dogs like Betty?
