Hi, I'm Atlas. Adopt Me!

Terrier Mix

Adult, Male

Sometimes fearful dogs seem to bear the weight of the world on their shoulders. Atlas is a 2-year-old 17-pound terrier mix that came to AFRP from the Hitchcock Road Animal Services after being rescued from a hoarding situation in south Monterey County. Currently in foster care, Atlas is slowly starting to learn to trust. We do not know what sort of trauma or neglect he experienced in the past, but he is slowly showing signs of improvement. He is bright and treat-motivated (loves cheese) and he gets along nicely with other dogs (has not been tested with cats). Atlas is happiest when outdoors exploring his back yard, and cuddled on the sofa with you to watch a movie. He is still too fearful to take for a walk on the leash, and he is still unable to meet new people. He’s a project dog for a very experienced dog person who has past experience rehabilitating a very shy/fearful dog. Time and patience will be the key to success! Adult household only, secure backyard preferred, and another friendly mentor dog in the home will really help set a good example for Atlas. Please note: Due to COVID-19, preference is given to residents of Monterey County and Santa Cruz County.
