The world turned into a brighter place for Nugget once he was rescued from the Hitchcock Road Animal Services and placed in foster care. Initially a frightened and growly dog, Nugget is learning to let his defenses down and enjoy life. This 2-year-old, 11-pound small mixed breed is just about as cute as they come. But he’s not a dog for a first-timer. He carries some baggage from his past life, and he’s looking for an experienced dog guardian that can work with a professional trainer to help set him on the path to reaching his full potential as a wonderful companion dog. Nugget is doing well with his house training, sleeps in his crate at night, and is learning his basic sit and stay in foster care. He’s not really one to play with toys, but he enjoys going for walks and spending time with his people. He’ll do best in a patient and dog-savvy adult household with no children. Nugget does not currently live with other pets, but he will likely do fine with other friendly small dogs. Nugget does growl when his boundaries are pushed, and he exhibits some fear-based and territorial aggression. Registration with a professional dog trainer for behavior modification is a requirement for Nugget’s adoption. Meet and greets can be arranged once an application is approved.
