AFRP Dogs Looking for Homes - Call (831) 333-0722 if you are interested

AFRP's dogs are cared for in foster homes. If you are interested in adopting one of our dogs, please call or email first before coming down to the adoption center. On any given day we have 5 to 10 dogs at the center, not ALL of our dogs are on site.

In order to ensure that we make the best match for a dog with a new family, potential adopters are required to go through an interview process, fill out an application, and have a home check done by one of our volunteers. We do not do same day adoptions. After meeting one of our dogs, it might take up to a week before the adoption process is complete and the dog goes home with you.

Please call (831) 333-0722 or email info@animalfriendsrescue.org if you are interested in adopting an AFRP dog and we will have the foster volunteer contact you directly.

AFRP only adopts out dogs that have been spayed/neutered. The adoption fee is $200-$300. The adoption fee helps to cover the cost of the care the animal has received, including spay/neuter, vaccines, microchipping, deworming, and flea treatment. Adopters are encouraged to take their new AFRP dog to one of our participating vets for a free wellness check (see list of participating vets).

She has some disc disease and will need to continue taking anti-inflammatory medications for her lifetime. Nani is doing great in foster care and is house trained, well mannered and great with people and gentle kids. She can be choosy about her dog friends and might do best as a single dog in the home, or with another compatible small dog. Nani loves to burrow under blankets for a cozy snooze! Happily, Iris did not let these challenges get in her way, and she has recovered very nicely in foster care. She still has some vision loss in her left eye, but can see well from the right, and she no longer circles. She's a friendly, confident happy and wiggly little dog that enjoys meeting people, gets along with other dogs, and enjoys playing with cats! Is Iris the dog for you? Mikaela
She's a survivor! Mikaela is gentle and cheerful 3-year-old, 15-pound poodle mix that came to AFRP from the Monterey County Shelter in desperate need of medical care. Two orange-sized growths hanging from her belly turned out to be large hernias that were surgically repaired by our vet clinic staff. She also had a grade 1 mammary tumor that was successfully removed. Years of carrying those heavy hernias caused MIkaela's hind legs to bow out, but that does not slow her down one bit! She loves to play with her dog friends and race up and down the stairs. Her gait is unique, but that only adds to her charm! Mikaela loves people of all ages and her tail never stops wagging! Achilles
Post renewed 5-1-18. Achilles is an 9 year old, 70lb cattle dog mix. He has a gentle, kind, shy soul but has unfortunately been through many homes recently through no fault of his own. He will reward you with a little happy dance and some "stump-waggin'" whenever he sees you! All this guy really needs is a comfy corner spot in a stable quiet home environment again! Achilles is fully housebroken, crate-trained, treat motivated, good on leash, tolerant of other dogs, and a quiet companion. He just wants to be near his people again so would be happiest in a home with a full-time adult caretaker. As a shy dog, Achilles is not suitable for a noisy, busy environment and is afraid of most children. He's looking for a retired couple to follow around again for exercise and some comfy dog beds for rest. Achilles is not an AFRP dog.
