AFRP Dogs Looking for Homes - Call (831) 333-0722 if you are interested

AFRP's dogs are cared for in foster homes. If you are interested in adopting one of our dogs, please call or email first before coming down to the adoption center. On any given day we have 5 to 10 dogs at the center, not ALL of our dogs are on site.

In order to ensure that we make the best match for a dog with a new family, potential adopters are required to go through an interview process, fill out an application, and have a home check done by one of our volunteers. We do not do same day adoptions. After meeting one of our dogs, it might take up to a week before the adoption process is complete and the dog goes home with you.

Please call (831) 333-0722 or email info@animalfriendsrescue.org if you are interested in adopting an AFRP dog and we will have the foster volunteer contact you directly.

AFRP only adopts out dogs that have been spayed/neutered. The adoption fee is $200-$300. The adoption fee helps to cover the cost of the care the animal has received, including spay/neuter, vaccines, microchipping, deworming, and flea treatment. Adopters are encouraged to take their new AFRP dog to one of our participating vets for a free wellness check (see list of participating vets).

Cruz

He's a happy and playful little guy that weighs 10 pounds now and should not get too much bigger as he matures. Cruz is an active and playful puppy that loves attention and will thrive in a home where he won't be left alone for long periods of time. This social boy likes other dogs and he would enjoy having opportunities to romp with other active canines. He is doing well with house training, but like all puppies, he needs consistent reminders. Cruz is looking for an adopter with time to continue his training and give him lots of love and attention. Interested in meeting this handsome fellow? Please fill out an online application.

Introducing Cassie, a sweet and gentle 1-year-old, 10-pound terrier mix that is ready to make her debut after five months in foster care. Initially very timid and frightened, Cassie has made good progress and she's slowly gaining confidence after coming to AFRP from the Salinas Shelter. Cassie is a good girl that is house trained, crate trained and sleeps quietly through the night. She's very good in the car, and walks on the leash with a bit of coaxing. She loves being around her people, though is still a bit shy about approaching them at first. Cassie is good with other dogs but seems interested in chasing cats. She will do best with a quiet, patient adopter with no young children in the home. For more about meeting or adopting Cassie, please fill out an online application.

He is crate trained and sleeps all night without a peep. He is a bright and alert dog that learns quickly. He does bark when he hears things outside, so may not be the best apartment dog with close neighbors. Beau loves to play with his toys and romp with his doggie friends. He's an affectionate and cuddly little friend. He's looking for an adopter with time to continue his training and include him in daily activities. To arrange a meeting, please fill out an online application .

Luka is an energetic, smart and happy pup, ready for a second chance in a home without felines! He is crate trained and house trained, and knows some basic obedience commands. Juniper
sponsor me

Sweetest dog ever! Juniper is a sweet and cuddly 4-year-old, 13-pound terrier mix with soft blonde fur. He came to AFRP from our rescue partners at the Salinas Animal Shelter. He was born with one eye smaller than the other (micropthalmia) and he has a permanent head-tilt that he may have been born with, or may be the result of an injury or inner ear problem. His x-rays are clear, and he does not seem to let any of these minor imperfections keep him from being a happy, playful and affectionate little companion dog. Juniper loves people and gets along great with other dogs. For more about meeting or adopting Juniper, please fill out an online adoption application.

Kornelius is mostly blind, but you'd never know it! He's an enthusiastic and friendly 1-year-old, 15-pound Terrier mix that finds joy in each new day. Kornelius came to AFRP from the Salinas Animal Shelter, and they immediately noticed that his vision was impaired and reached out to AFRP. We found Korny a foster home, and had him evaluated by a veterinary ophthalmologist. Turns out he has detached retinas, glaucoma and several other eye conditions. He has some perception of light and dark at this time, but eventually he will completely lose his vision. Kornelius is looking for an adopter that is willing to continue administering his eye drops three times a day and can take him for regular eye exams. Since he can be startled easily, a calm, adult household would be the best match. For more info about meeting or adopting Kornelius, please fill out an online application.

Khaleesi
Posted 11-24-19. Hi there, I am Khaleesi and I was rescued from a high-kill shelter in Hawai after having been abandoned in the wilderness on Kauai. I am a 5 year old female, 40 lb Airedale terrier mix with lots of energy! I am a lover, snuggler and a giant lap dog to boot! I need a home where I can have a lot of attention and exercise. My new home needs to be adults only, as I am very sensitive and startle easily. I am still working on my trust issues. I can be scared and slow to warm up sometimes but I hope you will be patient with me. Once I decide to love you, I'm sold! I am crate trained and will go in of my own accord to relax, and I do very well on a leash and with basic commands. I would do best as an only dog, or possibly with another low key big male dog who likes to play and doesn't growl at me or stress me out. I'm choosey about my friends. I do love playing with chickens, and I get the rooster at my farm to chase me around the yard every morning. No cats please, because I want to play with them too, and it stresses them out. Please let me be your dragon-queen and I will love you fiercely! Khaleesi is not an AFRP dog. For more information, please contact Kelly at 206-427-7395 or email kjbella595@gmail.com

She knows her basic obedience command and loves to play fetch. She is learning to heel while on leash. She loves to run and romp in the woods. Clarissa can come on strong with other dogs, but might be fine with a large dog with a similar energy level. She needs at least an hour of running or vigorous exercise every day. She has lived with a confident cat. Clarissa is not an AFRP dog and currently lives in King City. For more information contact Carol at 831-386-9619, 831-385-4781 or 831-214-4960.

Simon
Posted 10-8-19. Simon is a sweet and loving 58-pound pit bull terrier mix that will be 2 years old on Christmas Day, 2019. He's in need of a new home because his guardian is relocating and cannot take him along. He's a smart and silly guy that gets along great with other dogs, kids and cats. He knows his basic obedience commands and hand signals, and he's pretty reliably house trained. Simon is a healthy dog but was born with a neurological condition that causes his legs to be a little unsteady. His front legs give out from time to time, and his back legs have tremors. He can walk and run with his awkward gait, but long walks are not his thing. He also has an underdeveloped lower jaw, which gives him a big overbite - but he can eat and drink just fine. Simon is neutered and up to date on vaccines. Can you help this special dog? Simon is not an AFRP dog and currently lives in San Jose. Leo
Post renewed 1-7-20. This 35lb, 2 year old low-rider loves to play w/his people & dog friends. This sensitive, smart pup is looking for a calm, experienced dog owner that can handle when he gets a bit scared of people or other dogs, especially on leash. Favorite activities include catch, playing tug, rolling in the grass, hanging outside, learning new tricks, and playing with his dog buddies. He already knows tons of commands and hand signals, including shake, go to bed, touch, watch me, roll over, and high five. This guy needs daily exercise, after which he will happily relax with you. He likes hiking, and the beach is his happiest place of all. Car trips make him nervous, though the destination often seems worth it. He loves to check in with you on adventures - he's great off leash (and away from cars). Most of all, this dog loves to learn, play, and eat. He loves people once he knows them; he's not one to fall in love with strangers. Older kids are best for him, and he enjoys the company of confident dogs. Leo is not an AFRP dog, and currently lives in Mountain View. For more info email Meg megangilbuena@gmail.com
