AFRP Dogs Looking for Homes - Call (831) 333-0722 if you are interested

AFRP's dogs are cared for in foster homes. If you are interested in adopting one of our dogs, please call or email first before coming down to the adoption center. On any given day we have 5 to 10 dogs at the center, not ALL of our dogs are on site.

In order to ensure that we make the best match for a dog with a new family, potential adopters are required to go through an interview process, fill out an application, and have a home check done by one of our volunteers. We do not do same day adoptions. After meeting one of our dogs, it might take up to a week before the adoption process is complete and the dog goes home with you.

Please call (831) 333-0722 or email info@animalfriendsrescue.org if you are interested in adopting an AFRP dog and we will have the foster volunteer contact you directly.

AFRP only adopts out dogs that have been spayed/neutered. The adoption fee is $200-$300. The adoption fee helps to cover the cost of the care the animal has received, including spay/neuter, vaccines, microchipping, deworming, and flea treatment. Adopters are encouraged to take their new AFRP dog to one of our participating vets for a free wellness check (see list of participating vets).

Sammie
Posted 1-7-18. Sammie is a 5 year old pittie mix. He is neutered and up to date on all his vaccines. Sammie ended up in the shelter as a stray and came in a bit timid. Over the 4 months at the shelter he became very fearful and for the last month or so had to be carried out of his kennel. He needs a little time to warm up, but once he does he wants to give the most gentle kisses, gently nibble on your ear and climb into your lap. He loves to be snuggled and cuddled. He is very playful and loves to play with toys, he gives them back with complete ease. He is 100% housebroken, he can be left alone for hours and is quiet, will not destroy anything and does not have any accidents. Sammie walks great on leash and takes treats very, very gently. His one downside is he is fearful of dogs. He is living with 2 dogs now but would love to be an only dog. He is not aggressive, just scared of them and will run away from them. On walks he will avoid dogs and would prefer to not interact with them. He is a sweet boy that deserves a calm household that can take him for walks and play with him. Sammie is not an AFRP dog and currently lives in Santa Cruz. Please call/text/email Grace 831.234.4523 gracegreenbach@gmail.com

Posted 8-27-18. Bochy is a 11-month-old Chihuahua mix pup looking for a loving home. He was part of a group of four dogs that were abandoned at the Hollister Airport Dog Park in the spring. The male perpetrator was caught in the act, but sped away in a vehicle. Bochy, ( named after the Giants baseball manager) has been in a foster home since May. He has come out of his shell, but is very much afraid of tall men with loud voices, he will run and hide in his crate at the very sight and sound, but is fine with shorter men with softer voice. Bochy is very good with other dogs, and children, and loves the ladies. He is house trained, crate trained and is very healthy. He is active, loves to run and play. He weighs 7-9 lbs. We'd love for Bochy to get a forever home, he deserves, like all the rescue dogs do. Bochy is not an AFRP dog and is in the care of All Creatures Great and Small of Hollister. He is crate trained and a great companion for walks, being easy to direct and calm on leash. Padre knows some basic commands and wants to please his person. He may talk when you take his food or toy away, but is not aggressive. He rides wonderfully in a car and responds happily if called when out and about. He will steal your heart if you give him the opportunity! Pedro is not an AFRP dog and currently lives in Pebble Beach. For more information call Vanessa at 831-241-8564.

Oreo weighs, 15.2lbs. Oreo is a little shy, but warms up quickly, on the whole a very sweet dog who deserves a loving home where a family really cares for him. He's a sweet, loving and loyal dog that also has some fearfulness and needs to build a bond of trust with his adopter. He's super-intelligent, house trained, obedience trained and is neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccines. Jax is fine with medium-sized dogs but not small dogs. He is fine with confident cats and foster kittens, and does not have any separation anxiety issues. Jax is a good match for a dog-savvy adult adopter. Jax is not an AFRP dog and is currently in foster care with Love That Dog Hollywood. For more info call Kristin at 818-632-6735 or email klaurene@svptv.com
Achilles
Post renewed 11-5-18. Achilles is an 9 year old, 70lb cattle dog mix. He has a gentle, kind, shy soul but has unfortunately been through many homes recently through no fault of his own. Because of this and his breed mix, Achilles will always be slow to warm up to new people but is interested and does bond with you after just a few days. He will reward you with a little happy dance and some "stump-waggin'" whenever he sees you! All this guy really needs is a comfy corner spot in a stable quiet home environment again! Achilles is fully housebroken, crate-trained, treat motivated, good on leash, tolerant of other dogs, and a quiet companion. He just wants to be near his people again so would be happiest in a home with a full-time adult caretaker. As a shy dog, Achilles is not suitable for a noisy, busy environment and is afraid of most children. He's looking for a retired couple to follow around again for exercise and some comfy dog beds for rest. Achilles is not an AFRP dog.
