AFRP Dogs Looking for Homes - Call (831) 333-0722 if you are interested

AFRP's dogs are cared for in foster homes. If you are interested in adopting one of our dogs, please call or email first before coming down to the adoption center. On any given day we have 5 to 10 dogs at the center, not ALL of our dogs are on site.

In order to ensure that we make the best match for a dog with a new family, potential adopters are required to go through an interview process, fill out an application, and have a home check done by one of our volunteers. We do not do same day adoptions. After meeting one of our dogs, it might take up to a week before the adoption process is complete and the dog goes home with you.

Please call (831) 333-0722 or email info@animalfriendsrescue.org if you are interested in adopting an AFRP dog and we will have the foster volunteer contact you directly.

AFRP only adopts out dogs that have been spayed/neutered. The adoption fee is $200-$300. The adoption fee helps to cover the cost of the care the animal has received, including spay/neuter, vaccines, microchipping, deworming, and flea treatment. Adopters are encouraged to take their new AFRP dog to one of our participating vets for a free wellness check (see list of participating vets).

Eeyore

Eeyore is a roly-poly bundle of sweetness! He's a 2-month-old Boxer-Shar Pei mix (best guess) that came to AFRP from the Monterey County Shelter after arriving as a very sick, anemic puppy. Happily, Eeyore rebounded in foster care, and he's a happy, healthy and playful boy with rolls of extra skin and a velvety muzzle just made for kissing! Friendly with people and with other dogs both large and small, Eeyore is a social pup that loves to be the center of attention and enjoys cuddling in your arms. He is doing well with his potty training and he is crate trained. Very food motivated, this guy learns quickly when rewarded with a treat! We think Eeyore will likely weigh a solid 65 pounds as an adult dog. For more information about meeting him, please fill out an online application.

Simon
Posted 10-8-19. Simon is a sweet and loving 58-pound pit bull terrier mix that will be 2 years old on Christmas Day, 2019. He's in need of a new home because his guardian is relocating and cannot take him along. He's a smart and silly guy that gets along great with other dogs, kids and cats. He knows his basic obedience commands and hand signals, and he's pretty reliably house trained. Simon is a healthy dog but was born with a neurological condition that causes his legs to be a little unsteady. His front legs give out from time to time, and his back legs have tremors. He can walk and run with his awkward gait, but long walks are not his thing. He also has an underdeveloped lower jaw, which gives him a big overbite - but he can eat and drink just fine. Simon is neutered and up to date on vaccines. Can you help this special dog? Simon is not an AFRP dog and currently lives in San Jose. For more information call Stephen at 408-726-7751 or email stephen.n.bishop@gmail.com
Dexter
Posted 9-12-19. Dexter is a 4-year-old neutered male Rhodesian Ridgeback mix looking for a new home after his guardians had to move and could not take him along. He is a very gentle soul who is good with children, cats and small dogs. His two loves in life are running on the beach with his family, and cuddling on the bed. As a Ridgeback, he does need at least one good brisk walk per day, but as long as he gets his daily exercise, he's content to be a couch potato for the rest of the day. Dexter is a young dog and is still in puppy mode, so while children are safe, breakable items at tail-level might not be! Dexter is perfect for an active family that wants a dog that is obedient, loving and protective without being threatening or aggressive. Dexter is not an AFRP dog. For more information email Brad at boodard@gmail.com
Leo
Posted 9-5-19. This 35lb, 2 year old low-rider loves to play w/his people & dog friends. This sensitive, smart pup is looking for a calm, experienced dog owner that can handle when he gets a bit scared of people or other dogs, especially on leash. Favorite activities include catch, playing tug, rolling in the grass, hanging outside, learning new tricks, and playing with his dog buddies. He already knows tons of commands and hand signals, including shake, go to bed, touch, watch me, roll over, and high five. This guy needs daily exercise, after which he will happily relax with you. He likes hiking, and the beach is his happiest place of all. Car trips make him nervous, though the destination often seems worth it. He loves to check in with you on adventures - he's great off leash (and away from cars). Most of all, this dog loves to learn, play, and eat. He loves people once he knows them; he's not one to fall in love with strangers. Older kids are best for him, and he enjoys the company of confident dogs. Leo is not an AFRP dog, and currently lives in Mountain View. For more info email Meg megangilbuena@gmail.com

She is a very sweet dog once you have gained her trust. Peggy loves to snuggle and be petted by her loving human. Peggy has lived comfortably with other dogs but sometimes prefers her own space. Mindy
Post renewed 6-4-19. Mindy is a 1.5 year old, 8 pound, female chihuahua with a very timid temperament. She was rescued from a hoarding situation and was not properly socialized with humans. She has been in foster care with South County Animal Rescue (SCAR) for 9 months and has made great progress but needs a quiet home, with calm, patient humans. She is great with other dogs and would make a good "little sister" to another dog. No young children or loud family environments. She is OK with cats. Mindy has been spayed and has all of her vaccinations. Mindy is not an AFRP dog. For more info please ontact Maria at (831) 261-2273 if you might be the right adopter for Mindy.
Charlotte
Post renewed 6-4-19. This 10 pound, 2 year old terrier needs a special home. She was trapped as a feral 10 months ago and is now an independent girl who need lots of room to run and explore. She comes indoors when called but still cannot be touched and does not like to be leashed. She is good with other dogs, is not aggressive but is fearful of humans and noise. She would be best on a large property were she can live independently but come indoors at night and in bad weather. She has all her shots, is spayed, and is currently in a foster home with South County Animal Rescue (SCAR). Text Lou at (831) 970-8878.
Bochy
Post renewed 6-4-19. Bochy is a 11-month-old Chihuahua mix pup looking for a loving home. He was part of a group of four dogs that were abandoned at the Hollister Airport Dog Park in the spring. The male perpetrator was caught in the act, but sped away in a vehicle. Bochy, ( named after the Giants baseball manager) has been in a foster home since May. He has come out of his shell, but is very much afraid of tall men with loud voices, he will run and hide in his crate at the very sight and sound, but is fine with shorter men with softer voice. Bochy is very good with other dogs, and children, and loves the ladies. He is house trained, crate trained and is very healthy. He is active, loves to run and play. He weighs 7-9 lbs. We'd love for Bochy to get a forever home, he deserves, like all the rescue dogs do. Bochy is not an AFRP dog and is in the care of All Creatures Great and Small of Hollister. For more info call 831-917-5570 or email viv@acgsinc@aol.com
Oreo
Post renewed 6-4-19. Oreo is an adorable 5-year-old Parson Terrier mix. He came from the SJACShelter, he was a stray that was brought in with a chest wound. He is now healthy and healed. Oreo weighs, 15.2lbs. Oreo is a little shy, but warms up quickly, on the whole a very sweet dog who deserves a loving home where a family really cares for him. He does not care for other dogs or cats so best in a home as the only dog. He is not an AFRP dog and is in the care of All Creatures Great and Small of Hollister. For more info call 831-917-5570 or email viv@acgsinc@aol.com
Achilles
Post renewed 6-4-19. Achilles is an 9 year old, 70lb cattle dog mix. He has a gentle, kind, shy soul but has unfortunately been through many homes recently through no fault of his own. Because of this and his breed mix, Achilles will always be slow to warm up to new people but is interested and does bond with you after just a few days. He will reward you with a little happy dance and some "stump-waggin'" whenever he sees you! All this guy really needs is a comfy corner spot in a stable quiet home environment again! Achilles is fully housebroken, crate-trained, treat motivated, good on leash, tolerant of other dogs, and a quiet companion. He just wants to be near his people again so would be happiest in a home with a full-time adult caretaker. As a shy dog, Achilles is not suitable for a noisy, busy environment and is afraid of most children. He's looking for a retired couple to follow around again for exercise and some comfy dog beds for rest. Achilles is not an AFRP dog.
