Spay-Neuter Vouchers & Mobile Clinics
Providing affordable spay-neuter services to residents of Monterey County has been a primary goal of AFRP since 1998. Spaying and neutering not only reduces pet overpopulation, it also prevents health and behavior problems in pets and helps relieve pressure on our overcrowded animal shelters.
Free and low-cost vouchers are available for cat and small dogs. For dogs, this includes qualified owners of Chihuahuas and Chihuahua mixes living within Monterey County and, for a limited time, qualified owners of small dogs (under 25 lbs.) living within North Monterey County, including Aromas, Castroville, Moss Landing, and Prunedale.
Fill out the form below to apply for the Spay PAL Voucher. AFRP will send qualified pet owners a voucher as well as a list of participating vets. The cost for a cat spay is $80, a cat neuter is $40, and small dog spays or neuters are $25. To apply for a voucher call 888-565-1287 or choose cat or dog link below.
Mobile Vet Clinic
In 2016, we expanded our outreach to underserved populations in Monterey County by offering free spays, neuters, vaccinations, microchips and nail trims for dogs and cats through our mobile vet clinic, purchased with funds from the Karen Ruhmann estate. In 2019, we started to collaborate between other local animal welfare agencies to provide extremely low cost spay and neuter services throughout Monterey County. Called The Big Fix, this program utilizes the AFRP mobile clinic, the Monterey SPCA’s veterinary team, and support from Monterey County Animal Services, Friends of Community Animal Services, Peace of Mind Dog Rescue, Spay California Now and Community Cat Allies. Working together, we are preventing the birth of unwanted pets and serving the needs of our community. Check the Big Fix schedule and register your pet for an upcoming clinic.
