Leadership

Members of the Board of Directors, leading the way with the belief that every animal deserves a chance at a loving home.

President - My roots on the peninsula and passion for animals go deep.  After graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Animal Science, I returned to my hometown and opened a Doggy Daycare & Grooming business. I’ve been a volunteer and foster with AFRP for 12 years, and have so far fostered 130 dogs. Four of my five dogs are "foster fails". Boomer, Betty, Bailey, Blue and Bella are affectionately referred to as the "B-Team". They often attend events with me as AFRP "Alumni". Besides hanging out with my dogs, I love doing anything creative like painting, sewing, and photography. As a volunteer, I enjoy planning & hosting events, public speaking, fundraising, and really anything involving the dogs. I'm honored to serve as the President, in addition to fostering for AFRP.
Vice President - My love of animals started at a very young age. When my family moved to the country in the late 70's, the variety of species I got to experience expanded. I attended Hartnell College graduating with an AS in Animal Health Technology. I have enjoyed a career in the Animal Health field for over 35 years (37 to be exact). My free time is spent with our animals which includes: cats, dogs, horses, chickens and doves. I also enjoy camping both with and without my horses, trail riding, quilting and game nights with family. I have volunteered with AFRP in one way or another for 24 years. Over those years I have fostered hundreds of cats and a few dogs. Neonates (commonly known as "bottle babies") and medical cases are my speciality. During the pandemic I became more involved by fostering even more kittens. I am excited to take on this new and very important role within a great organization like AFRP.
Secretary & Chief Financial Officer - Hi I'm Angie and I am the fundraising chair. I have been volunteering with many different dog and cat rescues and shelters since I was in 6th grade. Being apart of AFRP is truly rewarding watching dogs grow up in foster homes vs the shelter is quite a different experience. I enjoy creating events and connecting with community members during fundraising and adoption events. If you ever have an idea for a fundraiser please feel free to reach out. I love the outdoors and spending time with AFRPs Chief Barking Officer Pickles aka my pup.
Board Member - My career has been in business consulting for years in the Silicon Valley, but my passion is working with non profit organizations, especially animal rescue.  I have always had dogs and cats as part of the family, going back to childhood in Chicago. I discovered AFRP years back when we adopted Rocket, our incredibly adorable little girl.  Rocket was only 8 weeks old when AFRP rescued her, and we will always be grateful to this wonderful organization for saving her life!
Welcome our newest board member!

Briana Sanford

I grew up in the Los Angeles area and moved to the Monterey area 11 years ago. After a decade in K-12 teaching and administration, I transitioned to a career at CSUMB focusing on fundraising and corporate and foundation relations. Animals have always been a big part of my life, having grown up with several rescued pets. Currently, my husband and I share our home with Waylon, our cat adopted from AFRP and our puppy Caleb from HRAS, who we fostered and then adopted. Serving on the AFRP board of directors is an exciting opportunity for me. My dedication to philanthropy extends to serving on the HRAS advisory committee and the CSUMB Basic Needs Initiative committee. I am deeply passionate about helping both animals and people. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my husband of 17 years and our pets, baking desserts, volunteering, traveling, and going to Disneyland.
